Follow the evidence. Find your confidence.
A useful listing explains what is known, how it is known, and what still needs checking.
Four statuses, carefully defined
Registration Verified means an editor has recorded official legal or registration evidence. Organization Identity Confirmed means official operational information has been corroborated by another source. Verification Incomplete means important evidence is missing. Additional Review Recommended means specific, documented questions warrant investigation. None of these statuses promises an adoption outcome.
AI finds candidates. Editors assess evidence.
Scout uses xAI web search to identify candidate organizations and source links. Only candidates whose official source appears in search citations are retained. AI results are always labeled Verification Incomplete. AI text cannot promote itself to a verified status. Editors can review official sites, government registries, annual reports and independent assessments and record their reasoning.
No invented ratings
We do not assign numerical charity scores or infer fraud from a missing rating. Small rescues may lack independent assessments. Financial overhead alone does not establish effectiveness. Registration establishes a legal fact, not a guarantee about service quality.
Location and freshness
Search radius is a research preference. We do not display measured distances without geocoded evidence. Map markers use editor-supplied coordinates only. Results include research or review timestamps. Current animals, fees and application requirements must be confirmed through an official provider.
Donation destinations
AI results do not recommend donation URLs. Directory donation links require an editor’s explicit confirmation. We do not collect charity donations into the publication’s Stripe account. An outward link is identified as such, and users should verify the destination themselves.
